Kangaroos 2016 - 2017

Welcome to Kangaroos
Welcome to the ‘Kangaroos’ home page. Our class teachers are Mrs Leighton and Mrs Smith  and our teaching assistant is Mrs Skelton. You will see us on the playground every morning from 8.40am if you have any questions or messages.

Our P.E. days this term are Monday and Wednesday. It is, however, recommended that pupils keep their P.E kit in school at all times as we often have extra P.E. sessions such as Freddy Fit.

We listen to children read every day so please ensure that your child's book bag and home reading book are brought to school every day. Please sign and date if you have heard your child read at home to enable us to change their book when they need to. Reading records will be checked and books changed on a weekly basis.

Homework will be handed out on termly basis in the form of min projects. You will be given five challenges to choose from during our current topic. You can also help your child by reading daily and signing your child's home - school reading record and practicing times tables and weekly spellings. We have a spelling test every Friday morning, please help you child to practise their spellings so they can achieve full marks.

In the Kangaroos our topic this term is 'Living and Growing.' In this topic we will learn about what plants and animals need to survive. Our first Talk for Writing text will be Jack and the Beanstalk.  As well as journeying to imaginary worlds above the clouds we will also grow our own beanstalks and other plants.  We will be visiting the RSPCA Animal Rescue Centre and Densholme Community Care Farm to enhance and enrich our learning even further. Please download our class newsletter for more details.

Please keep an eye out for our class twitter feed and and don't forget we will be sharing all of our Wow! moments with you via Marvelous Me. Please send us a high five if you like what we are doing.

December 2015

It's been a busy month in the Kangaroos. We have had lots of fun with our learning. Here are some of the things we have learnt and enjoyed.
We designed and made our own healthy sandwiches.

George said that it was the best sandwich he had ever tasted! Even better than school dinners and they're pretty good too.

Ella and Amelia really enjoyed their sandwiches too.

Mrs Leighton's Mum and Dad came in to talk to us about what life was like for them as children in the 1950's. We learnt that school was very different then and the boys always wore shorts even in the winter.

We held a family learning event and our parents came in to help us make Christmas decorations. We made a bit of a mess that afternoon.

We all joined in with making a Christmas Video in 1 take. Here we are waiting with our instruments for the camera crew to arrive. We looked fantastic. Watch out for the video on the home page.

Children in Need 2015.
We are Champions of Change.

The School Council asked as what we would like to change for the day to raise money for Children in Need. We all paid to dress up as the teachers for the day and asked the teachers to dress up as school children.

We all looked amazing. Mrs Leighton said she had never looked better.

Mr Kernan looked really smart too.

Check out the rest of us...
